Grounds for real change
Adan Abobaker travelled the world and built a career as a successful chef. A family tragedy turned his life upside down and he became homeless, living on the streets for over a decade. A year ago his life was transformed by the coffee cart charity Change Please Coffee. They trained him to become a barista and gave him a job at one of their London coffee carts. Adan says ‘I’m finally living rather than existing. Change Please has restored my dignity and through the simple act of brewing a cup of coffee, made me part of the world again.’ We ran Adan’s story in The Times Magazine as part of our partnership with Virgin Trains who support the charity and serve its coffee onboard its West Coast line. To compliment the article we commissioned the amazingly talented team at Vault 49 to create this coffee art story of his life.
