Primark wanted to promote their new Farrell menswear collection. The brainchild of pop legend Robbie Williams and backed by entrepreneurial powerhouse Peter Jones, the range was full of wardrobe classics, elegant cuts and easy everyday wears with each piece having an emphasis on quality fabrics.
Inspired by Williams’s grandfather Jack Farrell, a legendary character from Stoke-on-Trent who believed in honesty, integrity, good manners and had a great sense of humour. The clothes were a tribute to the man who taught a young Williams to chase down every opportunity and command respect.
“Jack liked to dress well, it was a strong part of his character,” says Glen George, director of buying at Primark. “The collection has an obvious workwear theme, influenced by his story. You can see this in the collared jackets with utility details. He was also a keen boxer, so there’s a vintage sports influence there with graphic T-shirts and jogging pants. There’s a real retro-British feel to the clothes.”
With a nod to its roots in Stoke-on-Trent, we commissioned photographer Darren Lennon to shoot model Rich Penrose at the Gladstone pottery museum in a stylish, strong and honest accolade to the man that inspired the collection. This three-page fashion story ran in The Times Magazine.
